    Description

    Rare 1867-S Quarter, AU50

1867-S 25C AU50 PCGS. The mere 34 1867-S quarters that have been seen by PCGS and NGC attest to the rarity of this issue. The majority of pieces grade from VG to VF; AU coins are rare, and Mint State coins are nearly unobtainable. The current AU50 example displays light gray surfaces that are visited by speckles of deeper charcoal-gray in some of the border areas. The design elements are exceptionally well struck for the issue, with even the normally weak star centrils strong. A minute mark southwest of star 12 and another southwest of star 13 will help to pedigree this example. Population: 1 in 50, 3 finer (1/07).(Registry values: P7) (NGC ID# 23UE, PCGS# 5471)
