Description

Extraordinary 1867-S Quarter, MS62

1867-S 25C MS62 PCGS. CAC. The mintage of the 1867-S quarter was just 48,000 coins, and nearly every one of those coins entered circulation at a time when silver was being hoarded back east. California was relatively unaffected by the Civil War, so the population had little economic concern. It was business as usual, and that business included a need for smaller denomination silver coins in commerce. As a result, few Mint State examples of this date, or any other S-Mint issues of the era, survive today. In fact, NGC and PCGS have combined to certify six Mint State pieces and only two other AU examples. This piece has a fully natural light silver-gray look with outstanding luster and brilliant mint frost. Some faint doubling appears within the mintmark. Population: 2 in 62, 1 finer (8/09).(Registry values: P7)
