Description
Rarely Seen 1868-S Quarter, MS63
1868-S 25C MS63 PCGS. Even though 96,000 pieces were struck of the 1868-S quarter, it is seldom seen in any grade and is especially elusive in AU and Uncirculated condition. At the MS63 level, only three pieces have been certified--this one by PCGS and two at NGC. In higher grades, a mere 10 coins have been seen by both of the major services (4/09). This piece shows the creamy luster usually found on Mint State 1868-S quarters that we have seen. The striking details are sharp overall except at the top of the obverse, and each side displays light rose coloration. Remarkably free from abrasions for an MS63.(Registry values: P7)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 23UG, PCGS# 5473, GSID# 5200)
