Description

1870-CC Seated Quarter, VG Details
Low-Mintage, First Carson City Issue

1870-CC 25C -- Repaired -- PCGS Genuine. VG Details. Briggs 1-A. Rich gunmetal-gray toning lightens to silver-gray on the high points of this scarce and highly sought first-year Carson City quarter. A single die pair struck the entire 8,340-piece mintage. Noted Carson City authority, Rusty Goe, estimates no more than 85 to 100 pieces of this inaugural CC-mint issue survive in all grades including an estimated 15 pieces with "Details" grades. The present coin falls into the latter category, with tooling visible on the reverse rim above UNITED. This smoothly worn example will satisfy legions of Seated quarter collectors who wait patiently to acquire an 1870-CC example.
Ex: John W. McCloskey Collection / FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2022), lot 4332, where it sold for $6,600.
