Description

1870-CC Quarter, VF20
Desirable First-Year Issue

1870-CC 25C VF20 PCGS. Briggs 1-A. The Carson City Mint managed to strike only 8,340 quarters during its first calendar year of operation, and few of those pieces were saved. Rusty Goe states 70 to 85 coins survive in all grades, and many survivors have problems such as cleaning or environmental damage. This representative displays dove-gray fields that contrast with cream-white high points. All letters in LIBERTY are readable, and marks are relatively few, given its years of service in the Old West economy. An important opportunity for the CC-Mint specialist.
Ex: Philadelphia ANA (Stack's Bowers, 8/2012), lot 11349; Regency XXIV (Legend, 12/2017), lot 70.
