Sparkling White Gem Mint State 1873 Open 3, No Arrows Quarter

1873 25C Open 3 MS66 PCGS. Blazing white in color with majestic luster in the fields and a strong strike. There are no signs of toning whatsoever on this coin, and it is as bright as the day it was coined. This is a scarce coin which is virtually unheard of in this lofty grade. Note the quality of the surfaces which hold up any examination, even under the strongest loupe, showing only the faintest signs of contact. We note a minor die clashmark below Liberty from the ribbon motto, and similarly the base of Liberty is seen below WE on the reverse. Of the 172,000 struck of this variety, many were melted once the amount of silver was adjusted by Congress. A classic condition rarity, and one of the finest to survive. Population: 2 in 66, 0 finer (6/05).(#5485)(Registry values: P3)
