Description

Colorfully Toned Superb Gem 1875 Quarter

1875 25C MS 67 NGC. This year witnessed the Philadelphia Mint's first sizeable (4.2 million pieces) quarter delivery since 1861. As Congress made significant efforts to return silver to active circulation in 1873 and 1874, most of these coins entered economic channels at the time of issue. A Condition Census survivor, this is a vivid, original Superb Gem. The obverse displays bright crimson-orange iridescence around the denticles and devices with softer apricot-gray colors over the raised features and in the open field. The reverse is awash in mottled lavender-gray and sea-green patina. Fully frosted, both sides are as close to perfection as we can imagine for a business strike Seated quarter. Population: 5 in 67, 0 finer (7/00).
