    1876-S Quarter, Reflective MS66
    Ex: Eliasberg Collection

1876-S 25C MS66 PCGS Secure. CAC. Ex: Eliasberg. Pearl-gray and pale lilac tones on the obverse show accents of orange, the latter color spreading on the reverse to dominate the color palette. Described in the Eliasberg catalog as:

"MS-65, prooflike. A splendid specimen struck from highly polished dies, not quite the equivalent of a Philadelphia Mint Proof, but far and away more prooflike than typically seen. On the present coin the prooflike surface extends to certain areas within the Liberty Seated figure and shield. On the reverse the interiors of the shield stripes are prooflike. Acquired as a 'medium S' variety."

Variety: Type Two Reverse, showing the letters of TAT separated at their bases.

Population Data (4/15): PCGS reports five in MS66 with none finer, while NGC's finest are nine in MS66. This is one of only two MS66 with the CAC green approval sticker.

Heritage Commentary: Gene Gardner earlier owned an MS66 NGC example of this issue, a quite lovely coin in its own right, but replaced it with this ex: Eliasberg coin.

Provenance: Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr.; Eliasberg Collection (Bowers and Merena, 4/1997), lot 1517; later, purchased from Joseph O'Connor (8/2010).(Registry values: P2)
