Lustrous 1877-S/Horizontal S Quarter, MS64
1877-S 25C Over Horizontal S MS64 NGC. VP-001, FS-501, Briggs 4-D. The initial S mintmark was punched into the die horizontally, then corrected with an upright S mintmark. A popular and well known variety. Whispers of olive-green and tan patina race over highly lustrous surfaces, and an attentive strike brings out good definition on the design features. Some light as-made roller marks occur on portions of Liberty. Census: 7 in 64, 3 finer (8/07).(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 23V7, PCGS# 5507, GSID# 5217)
