Description

    1878-CC Seated Quarter, MS66+
    None Numerically Finer at PCGS

1878-CC 25C MS66+ PCGS. The 1878-CC Seated Liberty quarter claims a mintage of 996,000 pieces, quite substantial in the context of the series. Unfortunately, few examples were saved by contemporary collectors, as collecting mint mark issues did not become popular until Augustus Heaton published his treatise on the subject in the 1890s. The issue circulated heavily in the regional economy at the time of issue and most examples seen today are in worn condition. High-grade specimens are very rare.

The present coin is among the finest survivors, with well-detailed design elements and no mentionable surfaces distractions. The well-preserved surfaces display a delightful patina of golden-brown, violet, and plum-red hues, with vibrant mint luster underneath. Eye appeal is outstanding. Population: 6 in 66 (1 in 66+), 0 finer (3/13).(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 23V9, PCGS# 5509)

    Weight: 6.25 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
