    1878-CC Seated Quarter, MS67
    The Sole Finest at PCGS

1878-CC 25C MS67 PCGS. Briggs 3-C. The right edge of the 1 is positioned between the 6th and 7th vertical lines in the shield, while the first C in the mintmark is centered above the R in QUAR. Just under 1 million quarters were manufactured at the Carson City Mint in 1878 -- a significantly lower total than in previous years. This probably reflected a shift toward production of what were then referred to as "Bland" dollars, widely known as Morgan dollars today. The 1878-CC is a fairly accessible date in lower Mint State grades. Only in Gem condition does the issue become rare. PCGS reports just 10 Premium Gems (two in MS66+), and this is the sole finest example at that service (3/15).

The fields exhibit distinct semiprooflikeness, especially on the reverse. This was caused by heavy die polishing, hence the incompleteness on some of the peripheral letters. The obverse features light rose patina with blue toward the margins, while the reverse is mostly brilliant with just a tinge of golden color at the rims. Thickly frosted and well-struck without mentionable abrasions.(Registry values: P2)
