    Description

    1879 Quarter, MS68
    Small 13,600-Coin Mintage

1879 25C MS68 PCGS. CAC. Beginning in 1879, mintages of minor silver coins dwindled as the Mints were busy producing millions of silver dollars to fulfill requirements of the Bland-Allison Act.

Only two 1879 quarters are certified MS68 PCGS (6/13), and this is only the second example we have offered, clearly different from the specimen that we sold in September 2005. Housed in a green-label PCGS holder, this Superb Gem has intense cobalt-blue peripheral toning around central magenta, all over satiny silver luster. A sharp strike appears on both sides, with virtually full details throughout.(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 23VB, PCGS# 5511)
