Charming, Brilliant MS66 1884 Seated Quarter1884 25C MS66 NGC. Ex: Richmond Collection. The 1884 Seated quarter is among the lowest (8,000 pieces, second only to the 5,000-piece 1886) of the low-mintage 1879-1890 business strikes, occasioned by the glut of Morgan dollars the Philadelphia Mint was churning out by the millions. The lustrous surfaces are silver-white on this charming and untoned Premium Gem, with moderate field-device contrast that nearly warrants a Cameo designation. There are no noteworthy distractions, save for a hint of strike softness at the clasp of Liberty's gown. Census: 10 in 66, 8 finer (8/06).
