Description

1886 MS 62 PCGS. A select example of this low mintage issue that is brilliant throughout with a few minor field marks on the right side of the obverse. Many of the prooflike business strikes offered of this date are really proofs, but not this piece. Even though moderately reflective, the diagnostics as a business strike are clear and unambiguous. The positioning of the date is just as stated on page 236 of Larry Briggs' reference as is the excess die polishing on BER in LIBERTY, at the top of the date, and on the rock over 88. Scarce as such with uncirculated pieces rated a High R.4.
