Description

1888-S 25C MS65 NGC. The 1888-S quarter was the sole respite from a decade-long run of tiny quarter mintages that stretched from 1879 to 1889. More than 1.2 million pieces were struck and, apparently, they were sorely needed in commerce because few high-grade coins survive. This semiprooflike representative displays areas of cerulean-blue and peach-gold toning and a sharp strike on the raised elements. LIBERTY is bold, unlike some examples of the issue. Census: 13 in 65, 6 finer (3/16).(Registry values: P3)
