Description

Overlooked 1889 Seated Quarter, MS68

1889 25C MS68 NGC. The 1889 Seated Liberty quarter is an overlooked issue along with the 1888, both members of a string of low-mintage emissions from late in the series. Only 12,000 coins were produced of the 1889 Seated quarter, but fortunately collectors of the era saved some nice examples, apparently aware of their small mintages. This MS68 coin is numerically tied for finest with one other MS68 (or the same coin was submitted twice) and one MS68 Star coin (8/09). The mint luster enhances the rich toning seen on each side. The obverse is deep blue with rose accents around the margins. The reverse is much lighter with a pinkish-gray center that is surrounded by pale blue at the rim. Sharply defined and problem-free.(Registry values: P1)
