    Description

    Extremely Scarce 1891-S Quarter MS66

1891-S 25C MS66 PCGS. Although more than 2.2 million pieces were struck of this final year Seated Liberty issue, relatively few were set aside for posterity and collecting by mintmark was still not an established practice. Of perhaps 200 pieces known to survive in the various Mint State grades, roughly ten percent qualifies as a Gem. The silky smooth example offered here is as nice as any 1891-S seen by this cataloger. Speckles of delicate golden-lilac patina adorn the obverse and portions of the reverse. A wispy die crack connects stars 8 through 11. Population: 2 in 66, 1 finer (3/05).(#5526) (Registry values: P2)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 23VT, PCGS# 5526)

    Weight: 6.25 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
