Description

1853 25C Arrows and Rays VG 8 SEGS, Reverse Cud, Briggs 8-H Late Die State, the second die crack on the reverse developed into a prominent cud in this advanced die state; 1853 Arrows and Rays VG 8, Reverse Cud, Briggs 9-H Late Die State, lightly toned throughout, the obverse bore the brunt of this specimen's heavy circulation; 1853 Arrows and Rays VF 30, Proof Obverse Die, Briggs 10-?, although this coin exhibits the same obverse die that struck the rare 1853 Arrows and Rays proof quarters, the reverse does not fit the diagnostic characteristics of any previously recorded variety; 1853 Arrows and Rays XF 40 Cleaned, Reverse Cud, Briggs 7-G, an abrasive cleaning has left this coin with an unnaturally bright, silver-gray appearance; and an 1853 Arrows and Rays XF 40, Retained Reverse Cud, Briggs 6-F, a swath of dark toning cuts through the obverse of this otherwise mottled olive and gray specimen. All coins are SEGS encapsulated.
