Description

1857-O 25C Fine 15 SEGS, Briggs 1-A Late Die State, this moderately toned, olive-gray piece displays weak definition on the base of the date, the lower obverse denticles, and the corresponding areas on the reverse due to excessive die polishing; and an 1857-O VF 35, Misplaced Date, Briggs 7-C, this charcoal-gray specimen evidences an extra 1 and 8 that protrude prominently from the denticles below the 85 of the date. This is a nice offering of two very scarce die varieties that Larry Briggs (1991) places a suitable premium upon.
