Description
1877-S 25C VF 30 Scratched SEGS, Small S, Briggs 1-A, while both sides of this moderately worn specimen display pleasing charcoal-gray toning, numerous pinscratches on the obverse are a noteworthy detraction; 1877-S XF 40 Old Cleaning, Large S, Briggs 4-C, this coin was apparently cleaned in a vain effort to remove the dark charcoal and olive-gray toning that is still readily evident on both sides; 1877-S XF 40, Small S, Briggs 1-A, with original, problem free surfaces and nice definition, this is a pleasing coin for the grade; (2) 1877-S XF 40, Type Two Reverse, Large S, both examples display original color and are free of noteworthy distractions; and an 1877-S XF 45 Toned, Type Two Reverse, Large S, the deep charcoal toning that envelops the obverse yields to markedly lighter russet-gray hues throughout the reverse. All coins are SEGS certified.
