Condition Rarity 1858-O Quarter, MS62 PCGS
1858-O 25C MS62 PCGS. The obverse is toned in gray and pale-violet hues with dappled, multicolored green, blue, crimson, and gold rim toning and a swath of near-brilliance around the date. The reverse exhibits vibrant golden-orange iridescence with patches of pale-violet and gray interspersed here and there. Sharply defined, especially for an O-mint example, and a noteworthy condition rarity from an original mintage of 520,000 pieces. A few miniscule, well concealed marks on Liberty's torso, the obverse shield, and in the upper reverse field are mentioned for accuracy. Liberty Seated quarter specialist Larry Briggs, in his book The Comprehensive Encyclopedia of United States Liberty Seated Quarters, gives this issue an R.7 rating in Mint State condition (approximately 4 to 12 pieces known). Population: 2 in 62, 1 finer (3/04).Ex: Long Beach Bullet Sale (Heritage, 10/01), lot 543, which realized $1,150.
