    1858-S Seated Quarter, MS62
    Only Known Mint State Example

1858-S 25C MS62 PCGS. CAC. Briggs 2-B. The present coin is the only 1858-S quarter certified as Mint State by either NGC or PCGS. (The prior NGC certification of this coin has not dropped off their Census yet.) Although the mintage of 121,000 pieces ensured survivors, there was a paucity of collectors on the West Coast until the 20th century, and the median grade among certified examples is VF. But this quarter exhibits full design detail aside from slight incompleteness on Liberty's knees. The fields show surprisingly few marks, and luster dominates the borders and devices.
