Description

1866 Rays Shield Nickel, MS64
Green CAC, Old Green Holder

1866 5C Rays MS64 PCGS. CAC. Luminous satin luster yields light golden toning overall, with deeper multicolor hues around the outer borders. There is some strike softness in the centers, weakening the shield lines, but the overall strike is excellent, and eye appeal is outstanding for the grade. The 1866 Rays Shield nickel is the debut issue of the new alloy-denomination, and the more collectible of the two Rays issues. Housed in a generation 3.0 old green label holder. CAC: 98 in 64, 64 finer (3/25).(Registry values: N991)
From The Bruce S. Sherman Collection, Part II.
