Description

1866 5C Rays MS65 PCGS. An attractive piece, highly lustrous beneath soft blue and greenish-gold patina, that would fit well in a high-grade type set. The Mint's comparative unfamiliarity with copper-nickel as an alloy is evident on the obverse, which has several die cracks (a reflection of the wear and tear the compound inflicted on dies) and soft detail at the left obverse leaves.
