Appealing, Fully Struck 1871 Shield Nickel
Repunched Date, FS-301, MS66
1871/1871 5C MS66 NGC. FS-301. Repunched Date. The Shield
nickel series is ripe with varieties for the cherrypicker, a
rewarding and underrated collection. On this variety the
underdigits are easily seen under low magnification, north of the
primary digits. Wafts of light rose patina accent the mostly
silver-gray surfaces. Impressive luster radiates from the fields,
which have numerous striations. A fully struck and appealing
Premium Gem, from an issue that is elusive even without the variety
