Description
1873 5C Open 3 MS65 PCGS. CAC. With a mintage nearly nine times that of its Closed 3 counterpart, the 1873 Open 3 Shield nickel is substantially more available across the vast majority of grades. At the Gem level, however, both varieties are highly elusive. Pale nickel-green shadings visit the margins of this well struck example, while the reverse offers a hint of rose toning. Population: 27 in 65, 6 finer (3/09).(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 276C, PCGS# 3800, GSID# 2876)
