    Description

    1873 Open 3 Shield Nickel, MS66
    Shattered Obverse Die

1873 5C Open 3 MS66 PCGS. CAC. A shattered head die gives this Premium Gem 1873 Shield nickel an intriguing array of peripheral die cracks on the obverse while still producing a sharp strike and frosty nickel-gray luster. The difference between the Open 3 and Closed 3 logotypes is minimal, although close study confirms that this piece matches the slightly wider Open 3 spread. Population: 11 in 66 (3 in 66+), 0 finer (11/15).(Registry values: N2998)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 276C, PCGS# 3800)
