1880 Shield Nickel, VF25
Lowest-Mintage Business Issue
1880 5C VF25 NGC. Aside from the proof-only 1877 and 1878,
the 1880 has the lowest mintage of the Shield nickel series. 3,955
proofs were struck, and they are available, but survivors are rare
from the commercial production of 16,000 pieces. This example lacks
the die markers associated with proofs. The stone-white surfaces
are microgranular and exhibit a few small gray spots and moderate
