Description

1882 5C MS66+ PCGS. CAC. This penultimate Shield nickel issue was clearly struck from late-state dies, so that the last digit in the date is a virtual blob, much of the motto IN GOD WE TRUST shows signs of die erosion, and spidery die cracks appear around the peripheries of both sides. The strike as produced by the dies is nonetheless excellent, as is the subsequent preservation of this splendid Premium Gem. Population: 1 in 66+, 4 finer (3/11).(Registry values: N1793)
