Description

    1882 Shield Nickel, MS66
    Rarely Encountered Finer

1882 5C MS66 PCGS. CAC. The 2 in the date is partially filled due to a chip in the die, and this is not the 1883/2 overdate. The strike is sharp throughout, and the surface preservation is seemingly flawless. A prominent die crack is seen from the obverse rim at 3 o'clock, and graces the upper portion of the wreath. Faint golden hues are seen over portions of each side, though the coin is otherwise untoned. Nickel production in 1881 sky-rocketed to an impressive 11.4 million coins (up from just 68,800 pieces the year before); representatives are readily available in most grades, though Premium Gems are elusive, and finer pieces are rare. Population: 69 in 66 (3 in 66+), 6 finer (6/14).

The way you grouped lots, photographed, and presented the material was too notch. I was impressed that you took the time to attribute coins to the Krause reference as their "plate coin" and that many of your descriptions included pertinent facts and infor
