Pristine Superb Gem 1883 Shield Nickel
1883 5C MS67 NGC. Four varieties of 1883 nickel can be collected, including the popular but elusive 1883/2 overdate Shield nickel, the regular business strike (or proof) Shield (as here), and the With Cents and No Cents Liberty nickels. Like many examples of this Shield nickel issue, this piece shows a die crack from the rim through the 3 in the date and the ball above. The nickel-gray surfaces are essentially devoid of either color or contact. Neither NGC nor PCGS has ever certified a finer specimen (9/09).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22PE, PCGS# 3813, GSID# 2886)
