Description

British Colony bronze Proof Penny 1791 PR65 Brown NGC, Soho mint, FT8A, KM2.1. 4 hairs, 3 blades of grass. 32mm. From the collector: "A bronzed copper proof.  A variety with the lion's tail ending in 4 hairs with 3 blades of grass under the Y of PENNY.  The bronzing technique was applied by brushing a copper blank with bronzing powder and then fixing it by baking. The resultant finish protected the coin from future tarnishing or spotting." Indeed, while the collector gives a great technical explanation for this piece, the stunning eye appeal of this coin must also be mentioned. With waves of iris color through, giving a great highlighting effect to the devices, this specimen is truly stunning in hand. An example of the much rarer 32mm penny, rather than the more common 30mm variety.

Metal: Bronze
Diameter: 32.00mm
