Rare 1884 Robert E. Lee Statue
So-Called Dollar, HK-758, MS64

1884 Robert E. Lee Statue, HK-758, R.6, MS64 NGC. Pewter, 45 mm. Obverse statue with fence surrounding landscaped area, around NEW ORLEANS FEB. 22 1884, PEIFFER BROS PHILA. on exergual line. Reverse wreath, SOUVENIR / UNVEILING OF STATUE / GEN. ROBERT E. LEE / FEB. 22, 1884 / BORN JAN. 19, 1807 / DIED OCT. 12, 1870. Steel-gray patina daubed with blue and silvery prooflike luster around the devices make this an attractive example of this rare and elusive issue. This appears to be the sole certified survivor at NGC, as even this piece has yet to show in its online Census Report (5/08). It is clearly the first time Heritage has ever offered a certified example in any grade.
