Description
1909 HK-372 So-Called Dollar, Select Uncirculated
1909 Hendrik Hudson So-Called Dollar, MS63 NGC. HK-372, DeLorey-75. Silver, 15 mm. Issued by Thomas Elder for the 1909 Hudson-Fulton Celebration in New York City, which commemorated the 300th anniversary of the discovery of the Hudson River and the centennial of steamboat navigation. The Hibler-Kappen reference (2008) notes that "only 50-100" pieces were struck and that between 21-75 coins are believed extant (an R.6 on their modified scale). The denomination on the reverse is "1 DAALDER," although the DeLorey-75 issues seem to be nothing more than miniatures of the DeLorey-74, HK-369 so-called dollars, which are the proper size (38 mm) for a daalder coin. Census: 2 in 63, 2 finer (7/08).Auction Info
