Exceptional Gem "Fine Beard" Burgers Pond

Republic gold "Fine Beard" Burgers Pond 1874 MS66 NGC, Heaton mint, KM1.2, Hern-B1. Mintage: 695. By Leonard Wyon. Fine beard variety. The current specimen is a veritable beacon of numismatic excellence, overflowing with a radiant golden luster that impresses even at a distance while revealing an unquestionably Gem state of preservation. Its harvest-gold satin fields reveal a magnificent display of mint brilliance, further augmenting its distinguished visual charm. A conditionally rare example and the first in this exalted technical grade we have had the pleasure of handling. A quick glance to population reports confirms the quality at hand, as PCGS has none graded above MS64 whereas NGC's census reveals our coin standing alone at penultimate designation, surpassed by a lone specimen a mere grade-point higher. We note a piece of nearly comparable quality last surfaced in the our January 2023 New York auction when an MS65 NGC realized an impressive $72,000. Considering the scarcity of such high-caliber examples, this offering is expected to generate a considerable level of anticipation among seasoned numismatists.
