The Famous Gold "Tickey" of Sammie Marks
Republic gold Pattern "Tickey" or 3 Pence 1898 MS62 NGC, Pretoria mint, KM-PnA23, Hern-ZP5. An interesting and unusual off-metal striking in gold reportedly produced for mining magnate Sammie Marks and with a scant mintage of 215 pieces. Exceedingly lustrous and nearly choice, with an enchanting golden-cabernet tone near the edges and some lightly scattered hairlines in the fields. The most recent example which we have offered, a PCGS MS63, realized a hammer of $34,000 in our 2015 Long Beach auction (sale 3042, lot 30576).Metal: Gold
