Description

1916 Standing Liberty Quarter
Toned MS61 Full Head

1916 25C MS61 Full Head NGC. The modest MS61 numeric grade of this Full Head 1916 Standing Liberty quarter may underserve the coin's eye appeal and technical merits that exist above its technical level of abrasions. Original olive-gold and russet patina in the margins cedes to lighter champagne hues in the interiors, and the uniformly satiny mint luster has an almost matte-like appearance at certain angles. Liberty's head exhibits as much detail as the 1916 design ever has, and the date numerals are bold. The only notable contact marks appear lightly along the ridge of Liberty's leg.
The 1916 Standing Liberty quarter saw a series-low mintage of only 52,000 coins and is the heralded key date of the series. While many examples were saved at the time of issue, and Mint State coins are accessible with patience, eye appeal within a given grade is often difficult to acquire. The current coin presents exceptionally well for the MS61 level.
