Description

1916 Standing Liberty Quarter, MS61
Nearly Full Head Sharpness

1916 25C MS61 NGC. Liberty's hairline is nearly complete on this piece, complementing well-struck motifs overall with satiny luster that shows light champagne color. Small handling marks limit the grade, including a few ticks on Liberty's legs as usual at the MS61 level. The 1916 is among the most famous key issues of any denomination among 20th century U.S. coinage. The first year of issue for Hermon MacNeil's design, the date was struck only in late December of that year, to the tune of only 52,000 pieces. Circulated pieces are often available, although quality ranges widely within each grade. The same is true of Mint State pieces. This example is pleasing for the grade and an accessible Uncirculated example of the date.(Registry values: N2998)
