Desirable 1916 Standing Liberty Quarter, MS62
1916 25C MS62 NGC. The 1916-dated Standing Liberty quarters and Walking Liberty half dollars, the former by Hermon MacNeil and the latter by Adolph A. Weinman, were the last coinage redesigns until 1921's Peace dollar, continuing the extensive coinage redesign project begun by President Theodore Roosevelt and Augustus Saint-Gaudens during the previous decade.In the case of the 1916 Standing Liberty quarters, the small mintage of 52,000 coins was produced in late 1916, and slipped quietly into circulation in early 1917 along with the 1917 Type One issues. Although the shield of this richly toned quarter is somewhat weak, the remaining details on both sides are nicely brought up. Underneath the thick gold, lilac, and iridescent toning is a full quota of frosty luster. The surfaces have a few typical marks that are consistent with the grade.(Registry values: N2998)
