    1916 Standing Liberty Quarter, MS65
    Elusive Full Head Specimen

    1916 25C MS65 Full Head NGC. The Standing Liberty design appeared on the quarter for the first time in 1916. Because the Mint was focused on getting the new designs for the Mercury dime and Walking Liberty half dollar perfected, no quarters were struck until late in the year. Accordingly, only a token mintage of 52,000 quarters was struck at the Philadelphia Mint and no quarters were produced at any of the branch mints in 1916. As a result, the 1916 Standing Liberty quarter is the rarest date of the series and specimens are prized by collectors in all grades and conditions.

    This coin is a delightful Gem, with well-detailed design elements and Full Head definition, which is seldom seen on the 1916. Vibrant mint luster is evident on both sides and a few hints of pale gold toning enhance the outstanding eye appeal. Census: 45 in 65 Full Head, 20 finer (8/13).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 242Y, PCGS# 5705)
