Description
1916 Standing Liberty Quarter
MS65 Full Head
Low-Mintage, First-Year Key
1916 25C MS65 Full Head PCGS. Herman MacNeil's beautiful
Standing Liberty design for the quarter was produced for the first
time in 1916. Unfortunately, it was difficult to adapt the
classical design to the requirements of high-speed modern coinage
and production, originally scheduled to begin in July of 1916, was
delayed until December. As a result, only 52,000 examples were
struck at the Philadelphia Mint before the end of the year. The low
mintage makes the 1916 a sought-after key to the series and its
first year of design status adds to its cachet with collectors. This delightful Gem exhibits sharply detailed design elements, with Full Head definition and just a touch of the usual softness on the shield rivets. The well-preserved surfaces are lustrous and appealing, with subtle highlights of golden-tan and lavender toning. PCGS Population: 94 in 65 (7 in 65+), 35 finer (9/25).
