Description

Scarce 1917-S Type One Quarter, MS67

1917-S 25C Type One MS67 PCGS. The Hermon MacNeil Type One Standing Liberty quarter is among the small group of milestone coin issues from the early 20th century renaissance in U.S. coin design. This Superb Gem example is an opportunity to own a near-flawless example of MacNeil's original concept for the coin. NGC and PCGS have certified only three pieces in MS67, with none finer among non-Full Head examples (8/08). Appealing champagne-gold and silver-gray patina adorns the obverse, while much of the reverse is brilliant, save for a dark crescent of reddish-brown on the left side. Crisply struck overall, as expected for this Type One issue, with a hint of satin on the obverse and powerful luster on the reverse. (Registry values: N4719)
