Description

1918 Quarter, MS66 Full Head
An Impressive, Fully Struck Example

1918 25C MS66 Full Head PCGS. CAC. The eye appeal and striking quality of this Premium Gem Full Head 1918 quarter are seemingly unequaled. Not only is Liberty's head tack-sharp all the way down to the last detail, but the shield rivets are bold, the outer rim of the shield is full and raised, the stars are sharp, and the date numerals are fully brought up. On the reverse, the leading edge of the eagle's left (facing) wing and the right-hand stars are crisply struck. Vibrant, frosty mint luster illuminates a mere blush of light golden toning.

Population Data (4/15): PCGS reports 42 in MS66 Full Head (one MS66+) and 12 finer. NGC reports 32 in this grade (two MS66+) and three finer.

Heritage Commentary: The 1918 quarter is one of the better-struck pre-1925 issues in the Standing Liberty series, but it is not found in high-grade Full Head as often as is the 1919. This issue is most prominently known for its frequently sharp shield -- an element especially pronounced on the present piece -- but the date numerals are often flat, an area of concern for many coins that could otherwise be termed "fully struck." The current offering is exceptional in all regards.
