Description
1918 Quarter, MS68
Among the Few Finest Known
1918 25C MS68 NGC. Without a doubt, this magnificent coin is
in the highest numerical grade ever assigned to an example of this
date, regardless of strike designation. It is also nearly a
candidate for the Full Head designation, as the details are about
80% complete, lacking only a trifle at the temple, as usual. Both
sides have brilliant, frosty luster with subtle champagne and gold
toning that shows up when tilted beneath a soft light. The shield
lines and rivets are well brought up and the date is clear; the
eagle's feathers show considerable sharpness, particular on the
leading edge of the left (facing) wing, which is frequently soft. A
lovely coin for the connoisseur who appreciates the finest that
numismatics has to offer. NGC and PCGS combined, there are only
three 1918 quarters known at the MS68 level, including two non-Full
Head coins at NGC and a single Full Head example at PCGS; the NGC
report for this grade has remained constant for nearly a decade
