Description

Rare Mint State 1918/7-S Quarter

1918/7-S MS 62 NGC. An exciting example of this scarce overdate. Because all known examples are from a single obverse die, very few of these were originally produced and an even tinier percentage survive today. All were released into circulation, and it is a miracle that even a single coin survived in mint state. Nevertheless, here we have a pleasing example, not a gem, but still vastly superior to most seen and certainly an impressive coin to anyone familiar with the series. Both sides are lustrous, with a light, gray-gold patina. Liberty's head is flat, as are some of the rivets on the shield, but the date is strong, as is most of the reverse. We are so accustomed to seeing nice coins every day that we sometimes become desensitized to their rarity and value. Occasionally, a coin comes along that re-ignites our numismatic souls. This coin has done just that.
