Extremely Rare Full Head 1918/7-S Standing Liberty Quarter
1918/7-S 25C MS 64 Full Head PCGS. A bold impression of this rare, avidly collected overdate issue, with an exceptionally clear underdigit, virtually all of the rivets on the shield, and complete detail on Liberty's head. The surfaces are fully lustrous, showing complete mint frost over all the highpoints of the design. Few collectors ever succeed in acquiring this rarity, even in circulated grades, so the chance to choose between no fewer than three Mint State pieces represents a unique opportunity to pick from the finest examples available in today's market.According to Walter Breen, this variety came about when a 1917 working die received an additional impression from a 1918 hub during the annealing process. The error was not detected even when the San Francisco mintmark was applied to the die, nor until after some undetermined number of coins were produced. The chances of such an error occurring undetected through so many different processes is very low, which is why such overdates are so rare during the twentieth century. Population: 2 in 64, none finer (6/99).
