Description

1918-S Quarter, MS66+ Full Head
Razor-Sharp Definition, CAC Approved

1918-S 25C MS66+ Full Head PCGS. CAC. Typically, collectors will see Full Head 1918-S quarters in MS64 and lower grades. Such coins are scarce in MS65 and rare as fine as MS66. We have previously handled an MS66 Full Head coin on only 22 occasions since our Auction Archives began in 1993. Of those, only a single coin was Plus designated and/or CAC endorsed, a PCGS coin in our September 2020 Dallas Signature which realized $40,800. We have not handled a finer Full Head piece in more than a decade.
The current coin is within the Condition Census of Full Head 1918-S quarters. It is struck from an early state of the obverse die, with no clashing evident, no lapping, and a distinctively matte-like appearance. This texture often looks like mild die rust, but it is normal for very early die state Standing Liberty quarters of this era. The reverse die is in an advanced die state, showing clash marks and heavy lapping with myriad striations from that lapping. The obverse is brilliant, the reverse displays subtle golden and pale lilac hues. Eye appeal is outstanding. PCGS Population: 16 in 66 (5 in 66+), 1 finer (3/26). CAC: 4 in 66, 0 finer (3/26).(Registry values: N7079)
