Description
1919-D Quarter Dollar, MS65 Full Head
An Important Strike Rarity
1919-D 25C MS65 Full Head PCGS. The 1919-D Standing Liberty
quarter is an important strike rarity. Jay Cline estimates that
only 1% of this issue is struck with a Full Head. The present Gem
displays the Full Head detail per Cline's criteria: there is a
distinct line between Liberty's hair and forehead, temple, and
neck; the three olive leaves are complete; and there is a hole in
the hair where the ear is.The bold strike transcends the Full Head. The chain mail is virtually complete, as are all but rivets 3 and 4 that show the usual softness. And most of the horizontal and vertical lines in the inner shield display some detail. The tops of the date numerals are just a trifle soft, a design flaw that would be corrected later in the series. Both sides yield pleasing luster and soft grayish-silver color. A small milling mark on the left (facing) knee and a couple on the end of the feathers of the upper-left (facing) wing might help identify the coin. Population: 9 in 65 Full Head, 6 finer (4/13).(Registry values: N4719)
