Description

1919-D Quarter, Satiny MS65
Brilliant and Well-Preserved

1919-D 25C MS65 PCGS. Satiny silver luster glows from the untoned surfaces of this semikey Denver issue. The 1919-D usually evokes comments about strike weakness and incomplete definition on the head, and not surprisingly this coin is a study in contradictions as well. The head is perhaps 60% complete, yet the shield shows blending on just three of the rivets with a nearly full inner shield border. A crack runs through the date, but the numerals are sharper than many examples and only modestly concave. The eagle shows only minor merging of the feathers and wing edges. Overall, the Gem grade seems about right for this challenging issue.(Registry values: N1793)
