Description

Near-Gem 1919-S Quarter Dollar

1919-S 25C MS 64 NGC. A lustrous, early San Francisco Mint issue that is quite challenging at the near-gem grade tier. While not fully impressed, the details fall just short of full head quality. The balance of the coin is equally well executed with above average delineation on the inner shield, drapery folds, and eagle's breast. Although the surfaces are adequately frosted and the fields are silky smooth, a small abrasion on Liberty's cheek accounts for the grade. Nonetheless, an appealing piece and a strong consideration for the quarter specialist who realizes that a full head specimen is too rich for his or her blood.
